Scoutmaster Corner

Our September campout was canceled due to the treat of a tropical storm.  However, we have two this month!

Junior Leader Training will be held at St. George Island October 11-13.  This weekend provides provide training to our new troop and patrol officers to equip them for their new roles.  All newly elected troop and patrol officers need to attend.  Other scouts may also attend; however, new scouts should know that this is a “working weekend” rather than a traditional campout.  In addition to the training, we will also work towards scheduling our campouts for next year and organizing our canoe trip to Northern Tier next summer. We will leave the church at 5:30 on Friday and should get back around 3:30 on Sunday.

Our next campout will be October 18-20 when we will attend the Council Camporee in Perry.  Due to scheduling problems and the church’s decision to get new buses to replace its vans, there are no church vehicles available to transport our scouts to the campout and we will need parents to help carpool.  This problem should be resolved by our November campout.  As always, scouts should be at KUMC by 5:30 on Friday, and we will leave at that time.  I anticipate we will be back around 2 PM on Sunday.  Let us know ASAP if you can help.

Help Wanted

We need an adult to volunteer for the job of logistics coordinator for the next year.  This person handles making reservations for our campouts and handling associated paperwork with the council and the church.  Lori Smith, who has done a superb job with this over the past year, will be available to help train the new person.  Let me or Ms. Smith know if you are interested.

Popcorn

Our Popcorn show-and-sell at local stores was successful.  We should have the net profit that the scouts earned determined in the next week or so.  All scouts should be selling popcorn individually now!  This is a great way for scouts to earn money for their individual scholarship accounts.
